Active holidays in the winter in the Chiemgau

Winter holidays know no borders in Reit im Winkl …

Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing or snow-shoe hiking: Around Reit, uncountable possibilities will await you to enjoy the joys of winter. Wide pistes, glittering snowfields, groomed trails, winter hiking trails and toboggan runs: What would you like to do first?

Rental of sport equipment and ski schools in Reit im Winkl

You need equipment or want to enrol your offspring in a ski course? Within walking distance of the hotel Unterwirt, you will find Reit im Winkl’s ski schools and sport shops.

Guided winter or snow-shoe hiking tours will be organised by the tourism office and lead you to the most beautiful spots in and around Reit im Winkl.

Skiing and snowboarding

Reit im Winkl is considered a snow hole. For skiers and boarders, this means snow-sure slopes until spring. From the Winklmoosalm to the Tyrolean Steinplatte, you will find ski and snowboard fun without limits. An 8-seat gondola lift will bring ski enthusiasts from the parking lot in Seegatterl to the summit station. From there, a ski area will open up that makes beginners and families as well as professional skiers happy.

Cross-country skiing

Reit im Winkl has a well-developed network of cross-country ski trails, which starts in the valley and leads to a breath-taking 1,100 metres above sea level into a fairytale-like mountain landscape.

For example, for beginners we can recommend the Wellness trail, which is easy to cope with a slight difficulty and 2 km in length. The expert will choose the Aktiv trail or the Evi Sachenbacher World Cup trail and can enjoy sporty rounds.

On a side note: Reit im Winkl will also see to it that the cross-country ski trails are covered in enough snow. Already from the last weekend before Christmas, 4 km of cross-country ski trails are artificially snowed.

Winter hiking

Well-groomed and constantly maintained winter hiking trails lead through the village almost without height differences and thus also allow leisurely walkers to enjoy the winter landscape in full splendour. Hiking on fresh snow, in the bright sunshine of the Unterwirt in the direction of Blindau or Entfelden, will be remembered for a long time.

For those who prefer the height, we recommend the Premium Winter Hiking Trail on the Hemmersuppenalm, which was awarded the German Hiking Seal as the first winter hiking trail in the Alps. To fully enjoy this experience, we recommend a guided tour organised by the tourism office.

Tobogganing

Pure tobogganing fun, whether with your family or in a group, will await you on the natural tobogganing run in Reit im Winkl. With 4 kilometres of length, the run is even one of the longest winter tobogganing runs in Germany. It leads from the Hindenburghütte on the Hemmersuppenalm down to the valley. You can leave the effort of the ascent to the ski truck. Before the rapid sleighing part, you can enjoy an invigorating Bavarian delicacy at the hut where you can also rent a toboggan.

Snow-shoe hiking

Snow-shoe hiking becomes more and more of a trend for active winter lovers. The snow-shoes are simply strapped under the feet and prevent sinking in the powder snow during walking. Hiking leisurely in the sparkling fresh snow and let your gaze wander over the mountain landscape, safely guided by an experienced alpinist - what could be better?
