Guided hikes and tours for a perfect start
To start with your summer holidays in the Chiemgau, the guided hikes of the tourism office are just right. They vary in regard to duration and difficulty and will be a good opportunity to get to know the surroundings with local guidance. This way you will reach the most enchanting places you wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.
Hiking on the Winklmoosalm
Perhaps the best-known hiking area in the Chiemgau is the Winklmoosalm, home of ski Olympic champion Rosi Mittermaier. The sprawling high altitude pasture is located 10 kilometres from Reit im Winkl on 1,200 metres above sea level and can be reached either by bus or by car via Seegatterl and a toll road. A particularly attractive route leads from the parking lot Winklmoosalm to the Staubfall: The tour with a total length of 19 km, which can easily be managed also on hot days thanks to its many shady sections, will run past the Moarlack and the vast Heutal. You will also pass the slightly smaller Fischbach Falls.
Mountaineering and conquering summits
However, if you want to climb a summit during your hiking holiday in Bavaria, you can ascend from the Winklmoosalm to the Dürrnbachhorn, which is about 10 km away. Not only families with children can shorten the ascent or descent with a ride on the nostalgic chairlift: from the mountain station you can reach the summit on well-paved paths after only about 20 minutes walking time.
Hiking with quality seal in Bavaria
The premium hiking trails around Reit im Winkl promise very special mountain enjoyment. For example, the approx. 7 km long "Almgenuss" circular route will present itself as a scenic beauty. The name says it all: first, take the minibus to about 1,000 metres above sea level, where the tour leads from the Hindenburghütte over the Obere Hemmersuppenalm to the 1,668 m high Schuhmacherkreuz. At the end of the following stage, you will reach the Straubinger Haus with its beautiful terrace offering a magnificent view of the Kaisergebirge. After a long break - children will enjoy a playground - you will hike back to the starting point via a wide farm track. If you would like to extend this tour, you have the opportunity to ascend from the Straubinger Haus in three quarters of an hour to the summit of the Fellhorn.
After a day full of unique nature experiences in the midst of the fascinating mountains of the Chiemgau region in Bavaria, the tired hikers can enjoy the spacious wellness area of our hotel in the middle of Reit im Winkl: Relax in the bubbling whirlpool or in the sauna after your hike!
