Activities in winter
Winter pleasure knows no limits in Reit im Winkl...
Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, winter hiking, tobogganing or snowshoeing, alone, with your family, friends or in a group – it’s up to you to decide which of the many possibilities you would like to try.
The local sports shops and ski schools provide the necessary equipment and offer various courses.
Guided snowshoe or winter hikes are organized by the Tourist Information Centre. Hiking guides will take you to the most beautiful spots in and around Reit im Winkl.
Guaranteed snow until late spring invites you to carve down fantastic slopes. From Winklmoosalm to Tyrolean Steinplatte, enjoy unlimited skiing and snowboarding fun. An 8-seater cable car takes skiers from the parking lot in Seegatterl to the summit station.
A ski region opens from there which is equally suitable for beginners and more proficient skiers.
Located directly behind the Unterwirt, the village ski lift provides an easy alternative. Put your skis on your shoulder and reach the lift in just a couple of minutes. The local ski lift is free for our guests.
Cross country skiing
Reit im Winkl has a large network of cross country trails, which begin in the valley and lead to a staggering height of 1,100 meters amidst fabulously beautiful mountain scenery.
The easy 2 km “Wellness Loipe” trail for example is recommended for beginners. Experts will prefer the “Aktiv Loipe” or the “Evi Sachenbacher Weltcup Loipe“ (world cup trail) for a great challenge.
Note: Reit im Winkl also provides guaranteed snow for its cross country skiing trails. Starting from the weekend before Christmas, 4 km of cross country ski trails are covered with artificial snow by the snow makers.
Continuously well groomed and trodden winter hiking trails lead through the entire village, thus also allowing walkers to enjoy the gorgeous winter landscape.
Hike on fresh snow and in bright sunshine from Unterwirt towards Blindau or Entfelden, and these wonderful impressions will remain long in your memory.
If you prefer ascending heights, we recommend the premium winter trail on Hemmersuppenalm, which was also the first winter hiking trail in the Alps to be awarded the German hiking seal.
Take part in one of the guided hikes organized by the local Tourist Information Centre to fully enjoy this experience.
A special highlight is the toboggan descent on one of the longest natural toboggan runs in Germany - from the Hindenburg Hut to Hemmersuppenalm, 4 km down the valley. Sports enthusiasts would walk uphill on foot. Yet anyone seeking a more comfortable way to ascend can take the Unimog and even enjoy a hearty meal before the speedy descent to the valley.
Toboggans can also be borrowed directly at the hut.
For those who wish to combine alpine and cross country skiing, you may want to try a new activity called snow-shoeing. The snowshoes are strapped onto the feet to avoid sinking in when walking on powder snow.
What could be better than walking leisurely on glittering fresh snow while letting your gaze wonder over the beautiful mountain panorama, safely guided by an experienced mountaineer?
Guided tours are offered by the local ski and cross-country skiing schools. Snowshoes can be rented in the winter sports stores.
